A Week in the Life of a Blogger

Jumpsuit: c/o Morning Lavender | Sunglasses: Similar | Bag: Gucci | Shoes: Similar

...

In today's post, I wanted to share what a typical week of balancing blogging and almost full-time work looks like for me. A blogger's life consists of lots of organization, multi-tasking and prioritization and after 1.5 years of full-time blogging, I'm still learning as I go.

I hope this post will shed some light around all the background effort and time it takes to create the content you come to read and view here on a regular basis =)

Events and Meetings
On my days off from my nursing job, I attend meetings, local collaborations or meet-ups with other fellow bloggers. Press events are typically held on weekdays, which means after my day job, I could be spending my evening driving towards downtown Vancouver to attend.

Emails
I can answer anywhere from 10-20 emails per day, answering collaboration request, which usually takes me a couple of hours to complete. I also spend time reaching out to new brands and introducing myself and my blog in hopes of collaboration opportunities.

Photography
The photography component of my blogging work is multifaceted and is fundamental to my blog. The hubby takes most of my photos and does shift work. Since my 4-day-a-week nursing job doesn't allow me to photograph my outfits in action everyday, I typically style between 3-5 outfits and photograph most, if not all, in one day. Fortunately, I have made some blogging friends over the past year and sometimes we have the opportunity to photograph one another. This really helps offload some of the work so that the hubby don't need to spend all of our free time together taking photos.

I try to plan my photoshoot locations ahead of time so that once I've started, I can finish in a reasonable amount of time. I have to be organized enough to have all my shoes, accessories and outfits ready to go and placed in a way that is accessible and manageable for changing in the car. And yes, my Jeep is my mobile changing room. I can't tell you how hard I laugh at myself when attempting to take off pants in a horizontal position!

Once photos are complete, time is spent selecting, editing and sharing on social media outlets and my blog.

Blog content and write-up
I typically try to share blog posts Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week. Creating interesting topics, writing and editing requires lots of time, effort, and patience. A blog post can take me anywhere from 1 to 3 hours to write.

Social Media
Social Media is an integral part of blogging and necessary for growing my blog audience. I promote my blog content on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and other blogging platforms to help my work be seen by potential readers and followers. Between all platforms I'm posting anywhere from 4-10 times per day to keep all channels as updated as possible.

Networking
Networking involves growing my social media channels and responding to comments left on my blog. I usually participate in this daily in order to ensure I have a continuous influx of traffic to my blog and social media channels.

It's not possible to include every aspect of my blogging week as you can see it's quite complicated. The bottom line is if I didn't love what I do, there is no way I could invest the time and effort that I do on my blog. Having this outlet provides me with the opportunity to share my passion with an audience and I couldn't be more grateful for that and for you taking the time to visit!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my week and have a bit more of an understanding of what is involved in my blogging life =).

  5. You´re doing a great job dear. I love your work and need to learn with you :)
It´s complicated to photograph looks when you have to reconcile schedules. Getting a 3/5 shot at once is very tricky. I don´t know how you can imagine and organize for that. Yes, and how difficult it´s to change clothes in the car and have such a polished appearance.

As usual you look so adorable! xx

  22. It's certainly not easy on top of a day job, I know that much. Sometimes I feel like I need to switch off for a bit and spend good quality time with my fiancé, friends and family but it is hectic trying to maintain a blog, social media and the network aspects. A couple of my blogger friends said we'd get together to get photos which may help me out too. Love the playsuit in this post.

I don't usually plan shoots because I just usually shoot what I am wearing but if I didn't have time that week or didn't have time, I have to shoot 2 or 3 in a day. You look great in this romper!

I can relate pretty much on every point you've written about here. Especially the changing in the car part....... if there was a camera that captured all the awkward and embarrassing and laughable moments I've encountered changing in a car!! Gosh.... the blogger life, right?
