How to Get Out of a Blogging Rut

Have any of you ever reached a point with blogging (or other things in general, perhaps work or in your relationship) where you feel like you're in a rut? Sometimes I feel completely uninspired and struggle to come up with content that I feel is good enough to share with an audience. As much as my blog is an outlet to share my thoughts with all of you, it's just as much a place for me to write for myself and to grow as a blogger and person.

Lately, you may have noticed that I have been sharing less blog posts compared to my typical three-a-week that I usually share. Part of the reason is I've been busy with travel, but the other part is I've had some difficulty with writing lately. The last thing I want is to share stale or forced content with you all so I decided to do a little soul-searching.

Today I'm sharing a few tips on how to get out of your blogging rut which I'm personally using right now.

1. Explore your city. As much as I love travelling and visiting new cities, I love to explore my own. When I feel myself getting into too much of a routine with my blog, I like to try out new restaurants, coffee shops and areas around my city that I've never been to before. Not only does it inspire my writing, I can usually create a fantastic guide of the places I visited.

2. Gain inspiration from fellow bloggers. I am inspired by blogs that I follow on a daily basis. Many times I will be reading one of my favourite blogs and it will trigger an idea for a blog post

Some blogs and posts that have inspired some of my recent work are as follows:
Paulina, creator of Shenska,  inspired me to write today's post after reading her blog post on branding yourself (thanks babe!).

Alexandra, creator of Life by Lex, inspired me to create my own 'Week in the Life of a Blogger' post after reading her day in the life post (see here).

3. Pick up some new magazines in and out of your niche. As much as I enjoy reading the newest fashion magazines to gain inspiration, I love reading magazines outside of my fashion niche. Home decor is another passion of mine and I would love to share more on the subject. So if I feel a bit stale with content, I'll pick up a home magazine for some inspiration.

4. Take a blogging break. If you've tried several things to get yourself out of your blogging rut and you just can't get out, it may be a good time to take a break. You never want to get so uninspired with blogging that you start to resent it. If you're getting to this point you may be suffering from blogger burn out and could benefit from a little break. Check out my previous post on blogger burn out here and tips on preventing it here.

I hope you enjoyed this post on how to get out of a blogging rut. If you'd like to see more posts like these or have any topics you'd like me to cover, let me know in the comments below =).

  1. OK. first of all, YOU ARE SO FREAKING SWEET! Thank you so much for the mention and the fact you took time to read my post. That means the world!
    Secondly, I'm so glad you're touching on this subject because that's exactly how I've been feeling lately. I actually have so much content sitting on my laptop but I just couldn't bring myself to write anything for quite some time. That's why I went from posting 3x a week to just once for a while just to soul search a bit too. I actually just came back with a new blog post on the ugly side of blogging that we don't talk about often enough in my opinion. I would love to hear your thoughts about it too because I'm sure you can relate!

    Sending much love from Napa Valley!

  5. Love this! I recently went through something similar and I found that reading (both books, online articles and magazines) really helped to get me inspired.

  11. You look so beautiful! And regarding blog's topic, I'll opt to try more of options #1 and #4 as I'm always between 2 and 3. I really want to expand my knowledge as well as get inspired by other things because I've found it that really helps to create content. Thanks for sharing dear! :)

    Have a lovely day and weekend!

  15. Yes and No:
    Yes, I definitely get into ruts, and worse, I get depressed and overwhelmed and worry - but;
    No, I have been blessed with an extremely creative mind. Unfortunately when I feel some energy I usually distract myself by trying to think about and do too many things at once, becoming scatterbrained, and then start feeling overwhelmed and depressed all over again - and then go back to reading other peoples' blogs, or watching NetFlix, or (gasp) a little housework.

    By the numbers on your tips for how to get out of my (failing to be) blogging rut:

    1. Even though where I live borders on being (or is) rural, I absolutely should get out, explore and see people more. It's been said that seeing me is more rare than an Elvis sighting;

    2. Thumbs up on getting inspired by other bloggers! Quite a few of the fashionistas I follow are truly awesome!;

    3. Someone (I don't know who) sends me Modern Luxury | The Hamptons magazine. It helps me to drift into dreams of grandeur - now if I could just win the lottery!;

    4. I sure have the taking a blogging break down. The last time I did a post was August 28, 2016 - and you have been an absolute DOLL, leaving three comments on my last (ancient) post, as well as another comment on the post I did before that one. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

    To me, three blog posts a week is amazing. At this point I'm hoping to manage two blog posts this year - I haven't done one in 2017 yet.

    P,S.: I love the V-neck and detail at the shoulders of the top you're wearing in the OOTD above, and your hair looks gorgeous!

  17. These are really good tips. I always find myself getting annoyed about blogging sometimes. For example not getting enough comments on Instagram, which is so stupid but I'm guilty of getting down about it. I feel like we all just need a break sometimes because otherwise we would totally get burnt out.

  21. First, I love those boots! They are beautiful and so nice with the denim shorts :)

    Second, I agree with your pointers - I think for anything we get stuck with (and not just blogging!) a break can be a good thing if we use the time productively. Glad you're getting back into the swing of things with blogging.

    Hope you are having a lovely weekend :)

  26. Really nice and relatable post Rina, I totally follow these tips almost daily. Getting out, discovering a new area of the city, a new café or simply go for a nice walk often takes my mind off of the blogging stress. Also following other fellow bloggers, such as yourself, usually helps with creativity and inspiration. Hope you are feeling better this week and ready to take on fall! Sending you much love from sunny Spain :)

  39. Yes to bringing up this subject babe!! All of these tips are so good. Just pausing it sometimes and step outside and focus on other things can do so much. And so important to not force content either, it just won't do any good. When I have so much inspo I try to write down as many blog post ideas as I can, and write some posts too, so on days/weeks when the blog rut is the worst I have some backups! It's just weird how days can be so different on how much you can write one day and how it's all blank the next one.

    Have a lovely week babe! Xx
