Avoid Looking Boring in Basic & Neutral Clothing

On some days I enjoy dressing in neutral colours and basic pieces. Sometimes an outfit may appear boring or lackluster if the neutral or basic wardrobe is not styled right. Today I'll share some tips on how to avoid being boring when styling basic and neutrals pieces.

1. Show Off Your Shape
Try wearing something that accentuates your curves to avoid looking like a frumpy box. Showing some curves, as I did in these high-waist jeans, adds some dimension to the look and brings it from boring to bodacious ;)

2. Style You Hair
Play up the volume in your hair or change up your hair style for some added appeal. I chose to create soft, large curls and amped up the volume to add a little va-va-voom to the overall look.

3. Add a Modern Shoe
My sandals by Geox are the antithesis of boring with their ridged sole, chunky heel and caged design. These sandals can take any outfit from humdrum to wow instantly. Did I mention they are one of the most comfortable sandals I own - talk about a bonus.

4. Play With Your Accessories
While my bag is still black and in keeping with the overall tone of this neutral ensemble, its fringe detail adds something fun and different to the outfit. I also added some dainty jewelry to complete the look.

5. Put Effort into Your Makeup
Since the neutral/basic look can appear as if little effort has been made, choose to put some effort in your make-up for the day. I chose to to wear neutral colours with a light winged liner, but you could also go for the non-makeup makeup look (see tutorial here). I lined my lips to really let them stand out and applied my newest favourite lipstick by M.A.C. called Velvet Teddy

How do you avoid looking boring in your basic and neutral ensembles?
