Visiting London, the hubby and I knew we wanted to visit someplace nice for a real English high-tea experience. When I was invited for an afternoon at the Drawing Room at the Flemings Mayfair Hotel I just had to say yes!
I instantly fell in love with the mix of modern and classic decor. The fireplace and beautifully dressed built-in shelves stole the attention of the room with their classic elements, while the luxe velour seating added a nice contemporary touch.
I had trouble narrowing my tea choice down as they had such a varied selection to choose from, but ultimately decided on the Bombay Chai which had hints of cinnamon, cloves, pepper and cardamom. The servers were so attentive and even offered to let us smell the selections to help narrow down our tea choices. The hubby and I also decided to indulge in the Champagne option, because why not? Vacation = champagne for lunch!
From the first tier, we enjoyed a selection of delicate finger sandwiches: chicken on wholemeal, smoked salmon on rye, egg salad on a fluffy brioche bun and a cheese/jam combination sandwich. My favourites were the egg salad and chicken sandwiches - my mouth is still watering remembering all the flavours!
From the second tier, we enjoyed a variety of scones, served with a Jersey Chantilly cream and jam preserve. The scones are typically my favourite part of high tea and they did not disappoint! I had to remind myself that we had a tier full of desserts to eat through, otherwise I would have completely stuffed myself full at the second tier!
I'm the type of girl that always leaves more room for dessert and less for the main course, so to say I was excited about the final tier is an understatement. The petite-four selection consisted of Victoria sponge cake with a raspberry buttercream frosting, pavlova with strawberry and lemon verbena, a passionfruit tart with caramel and chocolate and cherry and pistachio profiteroles (my favourite). The hubby and I had to have a small and late dinner that day because of how stuffed we were from high tea!
All-in-all, the hubby and I really enjoyed our time at the Flemings Mayfair for high-tea. Amazing food, stunning decor and an intimate and relaxed setting all come together for the perfect high-tea experience. Prices are also extremely reasonable at €34.50 per person or €48.00 per person for the champagne addition. Next time, I'll have to look into booking a room at the Flemings Mayfair as I'm sure the remainder of the hotel will be just as chic as Drawing Room.
To briefly touch on my outfit choice for high tea, I wanted to wear something feminine and fun. This floral number from Top Shop was the perfect number with it's ruffle and floral details. Since I knew I would be out for the rest of the day, I edged up the look with some booties and a leather jacket so I wouldn't feel too overdressed.
Shop the look below:
Dress: Top Shop + Similar style | Jacket: Similar | Boots: Similar | Sunglasses: c/o Le Chateau | Bag: Gucci
