What to Eat, Drink and Do in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA)

If you follow me on Instagram (@rinasamantha), you know I recently came back from a trip to Los Angeles.  I've visited L.A. many times before but experienced it in a completely different way this time around. Today I want to share a few of my personal favourites when visiting Downtown L.A., from where to eat, drink, shop and explore!

Visit a Roof Top Patio: The views in DTLA are amazing if you know where to go. Perch is an establishment that offers restaurant seating on the lower level and an outdoor rooftop patio for drinks on the upper level. Prices of drinks aren't cheap at $14 a piece but the view is definitely worth it! We didn't end up eating here but my favorite drink to order was 'My Fair Lady'.  Beware: it's reallllly strong!

Go Shopping: There are a few really cool streets to check out for shopping in DTLA. Santee Alley is known for their discounted apparel, shoes and accessories and definitely worth to be visited at least once! I heard Sophia Amurso, founder of Nasty Gal and author to award-winning novel '#Girlboss', started off purchasing clothing at Santee Alley and reselling it on eBay! It's always neat to see where a girlboss originated!

In Historic Downtown, I stumbled across a store called BNKR, and fell in love. Thank God they have an online shop because I did not have enough time to shop when I visited last!

Grab Something to Eat or Drink: There just wasn't enough time in my trip to visit all the places I was recommended to eat or drink in DTLA. Here are a few that I planned to visit with unique food selections, high ratings and really pretty aesthetics:
  • LA Chapter - A cute brasserie located just outside the Ace Hotel. The outdoor seating reminds me of a Parisian cafe.
  • Bread Lounge - A selection of sandwiches, paninis and pastries made with all natural ingredients. This place is rated 4.7 stars on Yelp!
  • Faith & Flower - A contemporary restaurant with a 1920's vibe.
  • Giorgi Porgi - An ultra hip, mole-like coffee shop with minimalist vibes and apparently really amazing coffee. Rated 4.8 stars on Yelp

Visit the Broad: The Broad is LA's newest and hottest museum at the moment. Admission is free but I recommend reserving advance tickets unless you're okay with potentially waiting up to 3 hours to get in. Since the hubby and I did not know reservations were an option and we were on a time crunch, we didn't get the chance to check out the exhibits. It's definitely on my list of things to do the next time I visit as my family and friends we're raving about how cool their experience was at the Broad.

Try the Skyslide: This was another thing on the list that we really wanted to do but didn't get a chance to. The Skyslide is 45 feet long, made of glass, and connects to the 70th floor! You can view the whole city as you slide along the exterior side of the building! If you have a fear of heights, this is probably not the activity for you =P

I'm already looking forward to my next visit to L.A. as there are still so many things I haven't had a chance to experience yet. Stay tuned for upcoming posts on photograph-worthy places to visit in LA and other LA travel recommendations!

What are some of your favourite things to do in and around L.A.?

A big thank you to Angel Alonzo for the beautiful photos! Definitely reach out to her if you're in the Las Vegas area and looking for an amazing photographer!
