You may have noticed that I have been absent on the blog and social media lately. There are no apologies here as the hubby and I are currently traveling through Europe and I owe it to him and myself to be present for this trip. The first few days I felt completely guilty with my absence but by the fourth day I felt at ease. My days off allowed me to self reflect and realize that I was on the verge of blogger burnout.
I love the blogging world and all the craziness that comes along with it but sometimes I'm guilty of over-committing and in turn, completely depleting myself. I have the type of personality like most of my blogger babes out there do, type A all the way. This can both be a good and bad thing when it comes to building your blogging empire. For me, my over-achieving personality had me working 7 days a week, and up past midnight on most nights. It's hard to say no and put work away when it's exciting and fulfilling but even a passion needs to be put to bed at night.
Over the next few weeks, I will be journaling and creating a plan for myself to keep my days more balanced when I return home. If you'd like me to share what I come up with, leave it in the comments below.
Now on to my outfit and a mini recap of my third day in Barcelona. Thank goodness I brought this off-shoulder top by David Lerner with me, I didn't realize how hot it was going to be on this trip! Midway through the day, I switched from my mules to a pair of slip-on sandals to give my feet a bit of a break. I hope you're not getting completely sick of seeing me wear this Gucci belt because you'll be seeing a lot more of it in the next coming posts!
Barcelona continued to impress me with its beautiful monuments, parks and just overall warm and welcoming vibes. Stay tuned for a full guide of my favourite places to eat, drink and visit in Barcelona!

Would love to read what you've come up with! It's always such a challenge trying to figure out a "proper system" since my days vary outside of my day job. It's fun for the most part to have that flexibility yet at the same time, my Type A side is going nuts haha.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your trip!
I hope to share my ideas in the next month or so =). And i totally know what you mean! Sometimes I have to tell my Type A personality to shush lol.
DeleteAh, I am sure your words will resonate with a lot of blogging gals out there, me included, particularly when you don't have a big team behind you helping with the content and social media. It can be exhausting and you indeed owed it to your hubby and to yourself to have some real holidays :) Looking forward to seeing your Barcelona guide and please, do share your tips on avoiding the blogger burnout syndrome!

I'm so glad you mentioned the blogging burnout! I've been feeling so overwhelmed myself lately as well! I agree, it's so hard not to put your all into this business, as it appears there's no other way to grow! However, taking a break and being present in the moment is so important, I need to learn to balance work, the blog and my personal life better.
ReplyDeleteMuch love from California!

I think the summer and the stupid new IG algorithm has got us all re-thinking our online strategy and social media presence. I've dropped IG like it doesn't exist... posted twice in the last 10 days. I'm taking my blog more seriously and enjoying writing more. It's fulfilling and fulfilling in a different way.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this honest post on how you're doing as a blogger. I loved it. Will continue to follow you and support your blogging adventure, Rina!

ReplyDeleteResting is definitely important no matter what you do. I think finding a balance between work and home lives is sometimes difficult but essential to your mental health. Take it easy! Do share what you have in mind. I'd love to read it. I feel overwhelmed too at times as a new blogger... especially when I can't seem to build up followers :( sigh! Anyways hope you are enjoying yourself in Europe!

Hi Rina,

I only blog twice a week and even that I find time consuming. I'm surprised you have the energy if you're up until midnight. I can see why a break was much needed for you

You are beautiful and that top is lovely. I like when bloggers don't apologize for taking blogging breaks. We all deserve time for ourselves no matter what our occupation.

I love this post! I wrote a post about blogging breaks and burnout when I got back from a 2 week vacation with my Husband last month too! It's so important to be present for those we love and to simply enjoy life and make memories. You also never know where the inspiration for new posts will come from if we allow ourselves time to rest and explore new places.
ReplyDeleteEllie | www.scotchandstilettos.com
Oh yes babe! So important to take a break every now and then and allow yourself to let the blog/social media platforms to grow in your pace. I think it sounds healthy that you've been taking some time off to focus on the trip and hubby! Xx

I think it's really brave of you to admit blogger burn out. It happened to me a couple of years ago and I left my blog for about 6months - 1 year. It was at a time where it was starting to really gain traction as well. As a result, yes it did put me back and I feel like I'm starting from scratch again, but now that I'm back, I've really had a more healthier approach to blogging and one that is definitely more sustainable!
ReplyDeleteI learnt that it's so important to enjoy life and to take the time to enjoy life. Blogging is a part of that life, but it shouldn't be your whole life.
Good luck with your blogging plan - do share what you come up with!

It’s good to see you living in the moment during your holiday rather than through social media! There’s no point in working 24/7 if you’re going to burn out, because then you won’t be able to work at all. I am looking forward to seeing photos from your trip though!
