Can Style Be Taught?

...

I find that I admire all styles of clothing but can never fit into any one definition of style. I'm a huge admirer of minimalist fashion. In fact, many of the bloggers I follow and love are minimalists. I also sometimes dress in a very minimalist way, however my personal style does not fit the definition of a minimalist.

One word I would use to define my style is adaptable. Depending on the occasion, the location, or the time of day, my style will change to fit the mood I find to be appropriate for that occasion. My personal motto is if you look good, you feel good. So when shopping, I never limit myself to the type of clothing I will select or try on. If something looks quirky or different, I'll reach for it and give it a shot. Sometimes it's a complete failure but some of my best pieces and most complimented clothing are those that you wouldn't typically think of trying on in a store.

So the question the question of the matter is, can style be taught?

I definitely think so! With all the blogs and online fashion publications like Who What Wear, Refinery 29 or even Vogue, you can learn how to style any and everything. The real question is, do you care enough to read about it or improve your own sense of style? If the answer is yes, I think anyone and everyone has the ability to be stylish. Whatever that may look like for you, always remember to stay true to yourself because confidence is key. If you wear something you feel completely out of place in, it will show.

How would you define your personal style?

  1. I totally agree style can be taught, if you're passionate about it you can learn and grow with it. I'm the same I definitely don't think I fall into a particular fashion style, I just love it all! Haha xx

  26. As with so many other things in the world today, I definitely think that style can be taught too. We are surrounded with inspiration and style tips daily, so for sure that one can learn to dress pretty good. But I do think, like other things as well, that there is a last touch of style that can't be taught, but is a feature of talent. Like so many can create gorgeous paintings, but not everyone has the last touch as Picasso? But nevertheless, I do think the fashion world in general is pretty good when it comes to having a high bar for style and dressing good!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend babe! Xx

  49. Good question! I am kind of on the fence about it though. Part of me thinks true style can't be taught. I think it's sort of like art or photography. Especially photography. I think you need an eye, and that can't be taught. BUT you can definitely learn photoshop and make good choices when it comes to editing. Same thing with fashion. You can learn and emulate, but I still think you need that 'thing' I guess, haha. Not sure if that made any sense!! Anyway, great post and perfect look. :)
